Analysis Of Langston Hughes s Poem I - 1679 Words

Poem Research Paper Langston Hughes’s poem I, Too published in 1926 speaks at great length about the American identity: to be an American is an issue that transcends race, and all Americans should be treated equally. Writing from the perspective of an initially subservient African American, Hughes presents a story that begins in oppression and ends in triumph. A throwback to the prior institution of slavery, the setting of I, Too is confined to a single slave owner s house; yet, it paints an image of struggle, growth and unity like none other of its time. It is no surprise that this poem is written by an African American, specifically Hughes, who was born on February 1, 1902. Through his innovative poetic style called jazz poetry, he played a major role in developing the Ha rlem Renaissance, which was a cultural â€Å"explosion† in Harlem, New York which defined African Americans on a sociological level (Cobby). I, Too is a free verse poem written from the perspective of a servant whose owners send to the kitchen whenever company arrives. The speaker’s yearning for equality comes true through continued perseverance: laughing off his mistreatment and continuing to eat and grow. The speaker hopes that the household will eventually acknowledge him and be ashamed of their actions. The first line of I, Too - â€Å"I, too, sing America† - is the speaker’s declaration that he is American. But who is he replying to - why does he â€Å"too† sing America? And why does he â€Å"sing America?† Why can’t it just say â€Å"I am American?† First of all, it’s important to establish that Hughes’s writing was inspired by Walt Whitman, whom many view as the father of American poetry (Ward). The Choral Concert Of Pasadena City College Essay

The â€Å"Fall Choral Concert† was held in Pasadena City College, on Friday November 4, 2016 at 8pm. The concert was an hour and half long and was performed in the Westerbeck Recital Hall (CA 140). The performs of this concert were mostly students of Pasadena City College, whom according to their teacher and conductor Mr. Guerrero managed to put an amazing performance in only 6 weeks. The Conductor of the Choral Concert was, PCC concert choir and chamber singers, Rodger Guerrero who has just joined the Pasadena City College Faculty a year ago. Additionally, Marina Fortuna Dean was the director of the Opera scenes. The choir arrangements were pretty consistent during all the plays. There were three rows of †¦. on the stage in the center. The Piano was placed in the center to the left side of the stage. For some plays which needed extra instrument such as guitar, percussion or cowbell chairs were placed on the right side of the stage for the players to play the instruments. In the contrary, the orchestra arrangements were not persistent during the play. Almost each section of the play had its own orchestra arrangement. However, the conductor stood in the center of the stage for the most part of the play except for the plays with opera scenes. The first play was performed by the combined choirs which called â€Å"You are the new Day† composed by John David. The shorter version of the same song was played at the end of the concert. Managing Organizations Organization Structure

Question: Discuss about the Managing Organizations for Organization Structure. Answer: Introduction: At the beginning of my career, I used to work in a small organization with employee strength less than twenty. I was appointed there as an operational supervisor. Therefore, I have to analyze the effectiveness of the operational process of the organization. At the time of joining, I was not that confident in managing the responsibilities appropriately. Despite that, I have tried to control my anxiety and take the responsibility as a challenge that can help me to grow up in my professional career. After joining, my manager have described my responsibility is to oversee that every employees is performing their responsibility in an appropriate way. I have provided with the information that the company has specialized person for specific responsibility of the organization. However, after few days of work, I found that the organization is having shortage of employees. As a result, every employee in the organization has to take on several responsibilities simultaneously. I found that employees are being forced to handle responsibilities in which they are not specialized. As a result, it is creating huge amount of stress for the employees, which eventually affecting the operational process of the organization. Furthermore, I found that increase amount of pressure has affected the satisfaction level of the employees largely. Therefore, the company has experienced high rate of employee turnover. I immediately address the situation to the higher management. However, the management has refused my suggestion of recruiting more people in order to provide specialized task to each employee. For the time being, I was surprised that management does not showing too much concern over the issue. However, later I realized that recruiting more people would increase the cost of the organization largely. Furthermore, management also has to develop new operational process that will increase the difficulty level for the organization. Thus, it actually creating dilemma for the organization to handle. Learning from experience: I have identified few benefits in using the Katz and Mintzbergs theories to elaborate the incident that I have faced in this situation. The above mentioned incident highlighted the large number of dilemmas that management of organizations have to face in order to implement effective operational process. The Katz and Mintzbergs theories highlighted that managers responsibilities can be elaborate in term of different roles or organized set of behavior identified with a particular position (Shafritz, Ott and Jang 2015). Interpersonal responsibility of the managers refers to the duties that involved people who are subordinates of the organization (Anwar 2015). I found that my incident also require managers to consider interpersonal responsibilities in a much more effective way (VÄ‚RZARU and VÄ‚RZARU 2013). Although, I am not sure how managers could able to manage this situation effectively but it will certainly give clear idea about the raised situation. Since, the me ntioned situation has induced managers to utilize all the employee strength to fulfill the organizational requirements (Randerson and Fayolle 2013). Therefore, it is necessary for the managers to develop effective interpersonal skill so that all the employees can feel themselves as a valuable asset of the organization. I believe that the theory describes that the managers have to be decent in order to handle the critical situation in an effective way. For instance, managers have to develop certain organizational atmosphere that will allow employees to contribute for the organizational effectiveness (Tam and Gray 2016). Thus, I believe that the theory highlighted that managers have to implement their informational responsibilities so that the employees can able to understand the situation of the organization in an effective manner. I felt that the proper flow of information could help the employees to take several responsibilities of the organizational apart from their specialization as well. Hence, proper flow of information is crucial for the successful utilization of the operational process (Horkin, Mevorach and Katz 2015). However, managers of Katz elaborate them seems to me to absence an overt moral compass (Evans 2013). Thus, it induces managers to implement strategies that are right for the b usinesses. Hence, managers decision of not recruiting additional employees to fulfill organizational responsibilities is somewhat justified by the theories. Mintzbergs integrated model of management highlighted the role of managers perspective in effecting their approach to the management (Katz-Buonincontro and Ghosh 2014). Thus, this theory also highlighted that managers perspective is very important in managing organizational incidents like those that the one above mentioned. Learning about myself: The incident highlighted the fact that I have lack of knowledge regarding the management implication in handling several complex operational processes. For instance, I am still not sure about the effectiveness of utilize non-specialize people in specialized field. However, the experience of this incident has helped me different way of running a business. Therefore, I believe the experience of this incident has helped me to enrich my knowledge regarding the management implication in the organizational workplace. The experience of this incident has helped me to deal with the future complex organizational situation in an effective way. Furthermore, the incident also helped me to understand moral perspective of the managers in a better way. This I believe will help me in future to take challenging decision for the benefit of the organization in a much more effective way. I also found that it is important to consider condition and perspectives of the employees. However, it is necessary to have certain level of balance between employees benefit and organizational profit as well. The mentioned incident also enriches my other learning. I found that effectiveness of the organizational performance requires specialize human resources. Since, it allows management of the organization to plan, organize, lead and control the operational process in an effective way. I also have able to gain knowledge about the difference between effectiveness and efficiency. This will help me to improve the organizational performances even when it is facing complex operational challenges at the workplace. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Film Analysis Paper In the film Shawshank redemption, we get an up-close testament to how interpersonal communication affects individual to individual circumstances. Interpersonal communicationis a term commonly referred to as an exchange of information between two or more people, usually with a messenger and receiver. Through communication concepts and ideas, the audience is introduced to intersectionality between characters' personas, circumstances, and tactics of conveying different communication strategies. As it pertains to Maslow's Hierarchy of needs, if we attain these levels, then acceptance of others choices will help us function to become a tighter knit society. In Shawshank redemption, we are introduced to the tale of Andy the banker, who's sentenced to life in prison after being accused of slaying his wife and her lover. In the process, he meets another prisoner by the name of Red. The two instantly bond over time, introducing the interposal imperative concept. Per Woods, the triangle of the Hierarchy of needs can be attributed to every individual in society. In Andy's case, he's specifically forced to succumb to physical need and safety needs through communication (Woods 22). One of the captain guards even goes as far as beating a prisoner who hurts Andy, after Andy begins helping the guard with his taxes. This tradeoff provides self-sufficiency for the guard, and safety for Andy (as well as cold beer, which falls into a physical need after some time). Another example of one of the hierarchy of needs at work within the film comes from one of the prison gangs. Some individuals within Shawshank joined a gang called the "sisters" and assault ed/jumped Andy on numerous occasions, due to the longing for others company, acceptance, and affirmation" (Woods 24). A young inmate joins Red and Andy midway through the film, and Andy helps the young man attain his GED. By doing so, Andy simultaneously helped the man by the name Tommy reaffirm his self needs portion of the hierarchy of needs. This part of the triangle proclaims that "being valued and respected by others" is an essential human need (Woods 25). A final aspect of Maslow's hierarchy of needs is that of self-actualization. A soon as one of the older prisoners in the movie by the name of Brooks is released on Parole, he finds it hard to adjust to the real world, and ends up hanging himself. Maslow states that each of us wants to cultivate new dimensions of mind, heart, and spirit." Brooks killed himself because he found himself to be of no use to the world, thus reaffirming Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Overall, this film and paper taught me a variety of things about interpersonal communication. For one, communication between individuals is not only for self-sufficiency, but a clear majority of the public tends to operate based on how those around them effectively communicate thoughts, ideas, and messages to them. It's important to study communication because without it, there would be no basis of understanding day to day societal living. The film provided explicit examples of communication for reasons of affection, inclusion, and control, the three main reasons as to which Maslow claims interpersonal communication is pursued by individuals. The film was very effective for studying communication, as it provided many subtle examples, as well as explicit ones. Communication is best understood when magnified and studied under a lens, and should always be the main prerogative of any individual, company, brand, etc. that wants to sustain a good relationship with his/her loved ones, or cl ientele/consumers.
